I read somewhere n the last few days ( and it escapes me where) that VW was unhappy with the design of the new car and had ordered enough change to delay the intro till mid- 2012. Has anyone heard news of this?..

Unhappy , more likely unhappy cos it cost more to produce than VW usually allow. Interesting though, if it's 2012 launch then it means a longer spell for the 997 than the 996/993/964 had. I wonder?

that looks like a significantly different rear end - are they toying with us by using a fake shel over the actual rear end or are they suggesting a move away from the 'traditional' style?

Oh, no. VW will be trying to stick a 2.0T Fsi in it and re profile some Golf/TT/Leon/Fabia/Passat/any other/ door handles on the bloody thing. banghead
